I finally made myself watch the Alasdair Thompson interviews today. Those not living in NZ may not know that Thompson, head of the EMU, was recently In Trouble for making some very choice comments about women as workers (they have periods and babies, and as such are not always profitable employees, apparently). They were quite bad, especially when he started getting all stroppy and telling off the female interviewers in this "listen here, young lady" kind of tone. What a dinosaur, seriously.
And maybe this is a dumb question, but how is that Employers and Manufacturers are allowed a union? Not to be all Class Warfare about it all (okay, maybe a bit Class Warfare) but, like, seriously, don't they already have the government and all of the money? I mean, the EMU is basically... well, you may as well call that an Anti-Union, maysn't you?
Then I watched this and I felt better.

[EDIT: Good news! It's the EMA not the EMU - the A stands for "Association". So, not a union after all.]
[EDIT #2: Thank god I figured that out before I started teaching classes again!]
